Tip of the Month
If you have discovered a thicket of small trees taking over your garden or yard, and you live in the midwest, you’re probably looking at Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) or Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia). Buckthorn is a seedy pest and the Locust reproduces by suckering. Both have thorns,so they aren’t much fun to pull out. Enter this month’s Hot Tip: the Weed Wrench. The jaws grip the tree trunk, the operator eases the lever back and the tree and most importantly, its roots just pull out of the ground. Since Spring I (way past middle age and 5 feet tall) have 300+ notches to my belt. I am definitely winning the war on my property.
